So if you didn't get invited to Chado Ralph Rucci's show, Cathy Horyn and Juergen Teller (famed fashion photographer, responsible for all those buzzed about Marc Jacobs ads) are assuaging your pain a bit. They are meeting for a FREE discussion, open to the public, on Saturday, September 12th. Kind of an oddly timed event, given the fact that there are at least 3 shows going on that evening that are definitely worth being at. However, this definitely throws the fashion week calendar into a tail spin because it's kind of big deal to see these two chatting it up (according to Horyn on the Times Style blog, Teller is a "wonderful, funny conversationalist" and we believe her).
The "open discussion" will take place at the School of Visual Arts, 333 W. 23rd St in the Visual Arts Theater at 7:00pm on Saturday, September 12th. Anyone planning on checking this out?

Despite some hesitation, I saw THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE today... I wanted to see the movie for sure. But the title, being quite timely, reminded me that Fall is right around the corner.
Afterwards, when I stepped outside of the cinema, I was utterly appalled. I felt an un-summery chill to the air. And I didn't like it one bit. Call it denial, but I refuse to wear anything except for open-toed shoes for the next month. Just give me a few more weeks to enjoy tanning season please!!! After that, I can start to digest the idea of sweaters and boots. I've even stowed away my September mags for a later, cooler time. Does anyone care???!!!!
At the other end of the spectrum, you have my friend G, whose fave season is Fall. She's been waiting and waiting for the stores to turn over their inventory. This past week, she was on a multi-store, obsessive quest to find her dream suede thigh-high boots. Well, much to her delight, she found them today! There must have been something in the air after the movie and all... Perhaps Anna sprinkled some magical fashion-find dust over our heads.
If you're like G, then you are probably excitedly prepping your closet for the upcoming season. If you want to get in on the over-the-knee boot craze, you'd better get moving! These things are H-O-T-T-O-G-O.
Perhaps you will be "suede" by one of these:
Talk about your super high-end, super coveted high fashion statement pieces that we'll be lusting after all season long (and beyond!)... can I just say that this is luxury at it's finest (with a vintage twist, to boot!), and it just doesn't get much better than this! Roberto Cavalli black silk evening blouse (Mytheresa.com - $601); Ted Lapidus vintage sunglasses (Luisaviaroma.com - $582); Golden Goose fox vest (La Garconne - $2,394); Hermes black crocodile birkin (Bagborroworsteel.com - $4,800/month); Balmain Swarovski-embellished wool pants (Net-a-Porter - $3,442); Gianni Barbato skull heel low boots (Luisaviaroma.com - $1,723); 5ct pink tourmaline ring with diamonds (Resale-Riches.com - $1,200); 1980's diamond and cabochon ruby peacock earrings (Frank Pollak & Sons - $3,500); twitter; facebook; blog

Yeah- so that was news a few days ago. Kate Moss was slated to make an appearance on Gossip Girl but according to Blake Lively, "It didn't work out."Whether this is actually true or not is of no importance- what really blows my mind is the fact that Kate Moss's good name is susceptible to these rumors when one may recall not long ago that the idea of even hearing Kate Moss's voice (aside from a small bit in a Rimmel commercial) was an oddly covetable experience (or is that just me?).And now she's just, kind of, everywhere. Seeing Kate Moss at Little J's birthday party might kill me (and I bet were this true, she'd be singing at some high school party or club where, hey, it's ok that everyone is only 17 and Kate Moss is involved in a salacious rendezvous with Chuck Bass). THE HORROR! Moving on.Her 11th collection for Topshop is out on the 31st and it's grungey and lady all wrapped into one. From her mouth to our ears wunders. There you have it. The mystique is gone. I miss the Kate I didn't know.

Wunders, I've fallen in love.
I was flipping through Us Weekly at the airport last week and came across a pic of Blake Lively in the most exquisite neon pink sheath dress ever. Michael Kors really outdid himself this time around when he created the Cashgora dress (pictured). I haven't been able to keep my mind off of this masterpiece.
Hot pink is simply fab in my book. It's fun, lively (ha, no pun intended), and reminiscent of a carefree decade. The rich color looks awesome with sun-kissed skin. And, hands down, the sheath cut is especially flattering, sexy and feminine on a host of different body types.
So now the heartbreaking news... The dress retails at $1,565. Definitely not a steal by any stretch of the imagination. Unless you can afford parting with almost a month's rent, it might be more prudent to look for alternatives:

So, have you heard about Anna Wintour's pet project (not my words - Fashionologie describes it as that and I thought it was fitting) Fashion's Night Out? Ah, cha, cha! Well, why haven't you? You may have read my mention of it in my The September Issue post. Fashion's Night Out will be taking place on the first official night of NY Fashion Week ... all over the globe! Participating stores and boutiques will be opened until 11pm and do you know how much they want you to spend? $2500. Yeah, like I don't have that to spend and if I did I would need to pay my bills or the transportation for my wedding ... that takes place in a year. You feel me?
Okay, so you don't have to spend $2500. We can spend what we would normally spend regardless of the FNO experiment. But no fabulous prizes. Okay not true again. It depends on how much boutiques want to participate in this social experiment - some are announcing that there will be chocolate & champagne and the stuff we've come to expect. There will be pop up performances and droves of models all over the city. The intent is to get people to spend money during this recession and to help the fashion industry out. Like we would want to help those who are the cause of our bulimia and severe self consciousness. Okay, I might be in an angry mood. What is up with me?
Apparently, this star-studded video will be running in all the cabbies that night and they want you to get over to the Dior store and spend a minimum of $2500! ...Well, there are other promotions going on at our favorites affordable shops, you know - Uniqlo, Intermix, American Apparel. You could visit the website to see exactly what the promotion is at your fav boutiques.
Well, I wanna hear from you! Preferrably from haters like myself but everyone is welcomed. Excited?
Visit Fashionsnightout.com for more info and for a list of participating stores. It just might be a cool night. Don't shop from now til then so you can get in on those promotions and free gifts. Me and my negativity will be at Topshop or Intermix or L'Occitane or Owl's Lab or Century 21 ...
Breathtakingly beautiful fairytale princess, pleated gold organza Marchesa creation (net-a-porter - $3,300) perfectly downplayed by slightly more casual flat Chanel sandals (resale-riches - $210) and a simple Miu Miu clutch (mytheresa - $357), all done in brushed gold metallics.blog; twitter; facebook

Check out RIME on Smith Street in Brooklyn-the hippest street wear on the block! Their unbelievable "end of summer" sale will pleasantly surprise you with their $10 and $20 bargain boxes up for grabs. Just seeing the boxes on the floor with prices slashed and slashed again brought joy to my heart. But don't let me spoil it for you-it is a must see for the street wear bargain hunter inside all of us.
Note to self: $10.00 shorts, check. $20.00 shorts, check, check. Rockin' out WESC, Mishka, Upper Playground and more, more, more. You gotta dig, but don't let that scare you. Speaking as the scavenger bargain queen that I am, it pays to dig. Walk in, recite your rehearsed polite greeting, dump the box upside down and get to business. These will disappear before your eyeballs so consider the fire officially lit under your posterior.
