WITH THE TURN OF THE ECONOMY this year, I've developed a finer taste for vintage shopping - a most useful habit during these times of uncertainty. Countless Saturdays in a row have been spent, together with my sister, digging for treasures, sometimes in the most dustiest of places - not only in the high profile vintage shops like Allan & Suzi or Fisch for the Hip, which actually really isn't vintage. My most recent purchase nearly knocked me off my feet - a Bill Blass Signature coat from the 80s! You must be able to tailor your habits to fit the times, is what I say. I'm still shopping, just a lot smarter.
This Saturday is expected to be nice, thankfully, so my new past-time is still on schedule but for those of you who share in this pleasure but are on a different schedule, here is a solution where you may remain warm while temperatures drop with winds in New York this Sunday:
Sarah Buxton has returned to her hometown of St. Louis, MI, but has managed to bring a bit of New York along with her. She just launched an online vintage boutique at MarionMercer.com. A wise way to return to a Midwest life but still keep that New York thrill that is fashion.
Now, she hasn't added shoes to the site yet, but you'll find YSL, Christian Dior, DVF, Valentino, and a whole line up of elite designers from the 40s straight through the 90s. The cardigan pictured is a Jaeger design from the 80s and very much a la mode today. I'm thinking about this one.
Happy vintage shopping ... and do let me know what you purchase!
