We hereby announce the New York very first celebration of St. Catherine's Day! We, the Milliners of New York City, will band together in raucous marching through the erstwhile millinery district in midtown on November 18. Yes, it's a date of our own choosing, because the real St. Catherine's Day, November 25th, is too close to Thanksgiving for us, and so we march early. The idea, Paris/French in origin perhaps, is to join together the unmarried ladies of 25, on the 2...

There is a certain time of year when the panama straw hat is indispensible. That time is now, in NYC, in case you haven't been outside in three days, folks. Our summer weather is a bit fickle with global warming a fait accompli, and so you must have a panama in your hat wardrobe. That means at least one, but a few different styles, one for beach, one for city, is a better reality. One hat cannot carry your entire summer panoply of styles, so look at a few different shapes...

As in, the Wedding March.......just seen in the Times, from the UK:
We are going to a wedding of good friends next month. Must I wear a hat? Must my husband? Ruth Lambeth, Bristol
Must? Fussed? Just? It is conventional and traditional for women to wear hats in church and for weddings. To flout convention is ostentatious. This year a lot of women are wearing feathers in their hair as virtual hats, like Apache squaws. Are they called fascinators? Also huge ...

I stopped in at Ellen Christine's shop the other day during my lunch break. It was worth skipping a meal and waiting 20 minutes for the 1 train. I had an amazing time as she topped my head with beautiful creations. Her hats are gorgeous! You all must go see them. Not only is her store filled with exquisite hats, but it's over-flowing with great personality.

Anything immediately looks better when you put a hat on it.
Think Indy, fedora. Holly, black hat with sash. Jackie, pillbox. Marceau, beret. The cat, the hat.
No one understands that the heart is in the head, and the head is where the hat belongs better than Ellen herself. You could find her store online as I did, but it’s vastly more intoxicating to toe heel your way to her Chelsea store. She is a master of the quip as well as the brim. Fearful of what people will say if you wear that leopard-print fez? “Don’t give a feather what people think,” she advises. Fretting over where you can wear it? “Wear it everywhere,” she responds. I won’t steal her best lines; that’s for you to discover, along with a hat that defines your character. (She has toppered me four times now.)
Just go and be crowned. As Ellen would say: May your head carry on.

If there is anyone who knows hats, it's definately Ellen! She offers a wonderful selection and she also does custom work. So if you've got a huge head or an "egg shape" like mine lol, Ellen will find or even make the hat that will fit your head perfectly.
