We had Audrey Tautou shopping in our New York hat shop. She was in town on her way to the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Superheroes gala. It was great to see her and her sister in my shop again, she is always so nice. They picked out two cute fedoras for her and her sister got a cap, and they were off!
Later the same day I had a regular customer in who was attending the Central Park Conservancy Luncheon. Together we picked out a lovely grey cloche that featur...

I was fortunate to be included in the Sunday April 27th edtion of the New York Post's "Page Six Magazine" with a centerfold spread about the New York Millinery Guild. This is a group recently founded by New York Milliners in order to promote awareness of our unique craft and cultivate availability of resources. The shoot was a really interesting experience. I enjoyed seeing the range of work and how everyone's unique style came together. Check it out!

Looking at the maps now you can just see how it is a walking tour of Julie's little downtown world. Last week I made it into the wonderful Lilith so it was only natural that I made it the hop skip and a jump across the street to Lisa Shaub's Fine Millinery boutique.

Lisa is an amazing artist and her boutique really speaks to her dedication and sincere aesthetic appreciation of craft. She hand makes and hand dyes all of her hats. I was particularly impressed with her materials especially the Toyo Straw. It is manufactured in China from paper fibers. The straw dyes up beautifully, and as it gets older, fades in a manner similar to denim. The mere idea of having a hat that will fade and grow with me just like a perfect pair of comfy jeans is just delightful.
In this video Lisa talks about her design philosphy, her summer hats (they are packable!) and also gives us a preview of what is to come for fall so if you are already itching for cool weather you can start planning!

This Lisa Shaub is nothing short of a genius. And what a great website. Stupendous. Best I ever saw.
Lisa's Nolita boutique is inspiring for anyone who loves hats. Her winter hats are fabulously stylish and soooo warm. She personally assists her customers in choosing the right style and colors. Highly recommended for unique hats and a fun shopping experience.
