Katie's Drums

Katie's Drums

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT KATIE HOLMES is that she seems to march to the beat of her own drums. Despite what they say about Katie finding style after becoming BFFs with Victoria Beckham, I believe it's all Katie, a mature Katie. She has been designing her own ensemble, as of late, for the red carpet in collaboration with her stylist, Jeanne Yang. How do you think she did for herself having not relied on New York, Milan or Paris' elite designers to create a dazzling presence on the red carpet?

Katie claims she doesn't have any plans to create a collection of her own but do you think she may have a knack for it? She was photographed on the red carpet with her own Holmes Yang design (pictured) for the Broadway debut of All My Sons this past week. In August, she was photographed in another Holmes Yang design (inset) on the red carpet for Tropic Thunder in Los Angeles.

Has she improved her red carpet look or has she sombered her usual red carpet thunder?

I've gotta say this- there is nothing particularly offensive about the pieces (how's that for an endorsement?) but, and I feel this way with most clothing that is properly fitted and well constructed, it's about the styling, not the clothes. In my opinion, K. Holmes would be better off with a little bit more of a "devil may care" approach to her styling: i.e. lose the dark lipstick (looks like she is on stage even when she is off), muss up the hair a little and maybe add some kind of a surprising accessory.
Believe me, it's so refreshing to see a celebrity that takes some control over what she wears and has an opinion, but in terms of my personal reaction- not in love. As she often seems to do, she works the "overly put together" angle too much for my taste and ends up looking a little costumey.
Just one woman's opinion...;)
