EARTH 2112...

SO, MY #2 AT THE MAG is interviewing some potential vloggers for a video feed we'll be launching. She spoke with a Jeremiah who had some interesting insight to share. In a nutshell, he said that New York City street fashion is very boring and there isn't very much to inspire on the streets. Everyone is wearing a uniform that falls into some category and designers have no real muse for inspiration in cooking up some original fashions.

What do you think about that? Are New Yorkers prone to following a uniform and not expressing original wit in their style choice? Well, we can peruse the fashionistas photographed for Wunderbloc and make some kind of assessment. One of my FAVORITE fashionistas would have to be Divya. Granted it was a mermaid parade but she still looks hot and original in her interpretation of the theme!

Ever since Galliano's Spring 08 show, I've been really longing for fashion to take a real turn and head towards Earth 2112. Think something along the lines of D&G's 2006/2007 ads. How practical is it for very busy lifestyles descending subways and navigating through very busy NYC streets? I'm not sure. Perhaps people are ready to move beyond layering. Designers may be ready and beginning to take us there but are we ready for a change? Perhaps. Think about that blouse that I described in my last post that you would need your BFF to help you get it on. I think we just might be ready.

Fashion knows no fear. A cliche but still the truth of it remains. This next season, consider pieces that you wouldn't normally consider. Work them so that it becomes practical for your lifestyle to wear on a daily basis or on an event basis. Scherer Gonzalez is just that sort of designer for me. I've been captured by the vision of the collection. The look pictured is from this design house. It's very Victorian 2.0. Fantastic! You can make these looks work for you. I'm very hippy with a derriere so I could not do the corset that enhances the feminine figure but I'd rock these very lavish jackets with a skinny, sturdy fabric pant. Needless to say flats would be a fail. 4-inch Pierre Hardy's or Proenza Schouler's would send me towering and looking like a fashion warrior!

Scherer Gonzalez also designs these amazing coats and jackets with a hint of military details and some still lending details from the Victorian period. They are to die for! I love the leather waist jacket with the folds in the back!

Where can you find SG? The collection is not yet available in the US [fooey!] but the studio will take overseas orders. The collections is now available in Germany, Dubai, France, Korea and Italy. So, if you can afford to go overseas and spend 160% of your dollar, check them out.
